The Australian Plantation Products and Paper Industry Council (A3P) has initiated a new national benchmarking tool that helps timber producers ensure their structural products are manufactured to the correct grade.
The tool – Generic Manufacturing Specification for Mechanically Stress Graded Products – was developed by the Forest and Wood Products Research and Development Corporation (FWPRDC) in conjunction with A3P’s technical committee.
“For the first time, all Australian timber producers will have access to a national model for developing and implementing their own quality assurance programs for mechanically stress graded (MSG) timber products,” A3P manager Peter Juniper said.
“This important tool will help timber producers continue to meet customer expectations, providing high quality and accurately graded products to the building industry. Timber producers will save time and money previously spent on developing their own site manufcaturing specifications.”
The 160-page document provides a comprehensive model for the production, process control and quality control of MSG timber products. Included is a step-by-step guide to help producers to ensure their products meet industry-accepted compliance specifications.
Tassie Rallies For Industry Support
Timber Communities Australia (TCA), the national grassroots timber representative and support group, has fully backed today’s (19 July) pro-industry rally in Launceston, Tas.
“The rally attended by Tasmanian forest industry families and supporters has tens of thousands of workers and their families on the mainland right behind them,” TCA chief executive Jill Lewis said.
“As at the last federal election, when the chips are down we will all stick together.”
Lewis said the rally was not just about Tasmania’s proposed pulp mill .. “it’s about industry and the well being of the state in general. If we, as a nation let an industry that clearly displays fantastic environmental standards slip through our fingers, then we are being irresponsible to future generations.”
