Engineered Wood: Products Update

27 June 2007
More than 30 delegates from across Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and Papua New Guinea are meeting in Brisbane this week to update their knowledge of plywood and laminated veneer lumber products.
Presented by the Engineered Wood Products Association of Australasia for manufacturers, distributors and users of plywood and LVL, the course covers the manufacture, testing, grading, specification and use of the range of products, including marine, structural, exterior and interior plywood and structural laminated veneer lumber and LVL flanged I-beams.
The group visited Boral Hancock's manufacturing facility at Ipswich to overview the production process, including quality control and product certification.
The EWPAA conducts the product knowledge course annually as part of its education and training program, which aims to assist in transferring technology within the industry to production and sales personnel, and externally to groups such as lecturers and undergraduates at tertiary institutions.

Industry Encourages Indigenous Employment

The Australian Plantation Products and Paper Industry Council (A3P) is working with the Federal Government and other industry stakeholders to develop a draft national indigenous forestry strategy implementation plan.
Earlier this year, A3P, along with other industry members, signed an MOU with the Government aimed at addressing the industry’s skills shortage by encouraging indigenous employment opportunities in the forestry sector.
