Wood Gives Carpet Beating
7 February 2008
A recent study of Canadian householders’ perceptions of wood flooring provides fresh evidence of why it has become one of the fastest growing segments in the North American flooring market. Over the past two decades, wood flooring has captured significant market share from carpeting and other floor covering materials, and this latest study by the University of British Columbia in Vancouver confirms that wood is perceived as being better than carpet across most key dimensions. The nationwide survey of 3592 households assessed Canadian perceptions of wood flooring and carpeting on six product attributes, including: pleasantness, attractiveness, healthiness, durability, affordability and environmental friendliness. Wood was rated higher than carpet on all attributes except affordability where they came out equal. The biggest rating difference in favour of wood was on the important health aspect.
