Talking Timber Recovery In Sydney

13 July 2007

The first meeting of the National Timber Stewardship Group, which aims to implement strategies to increase recovery and utilisation of end-of-life timber and wood products, was held in Brisbane this month.
The group was formed within the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) project, run jointly by the Australian Plantation Products and Paper Industry Council (A3P) and the Timber Development Association of NSW (TDA). The group visited a timber recycling plant outside Brisbane during the meeting.
As an extension of the previous Treated Timber Product Stewardship Group, A3P's Sustainability Action Plan includes a commitment to work with governments and industry to ensure availability of suitable disposal options for treated timber.
Meanwhile, the next in a series of industry workshops organised by A3P and the National Association of Forest Industries (NAFI) will be held in Melbourne on 31 July.
This joint wood and paper industry skills communications project is funded by the Department of Education Science and Training (DEST). A3P manager Richard Stanton and communications officer Jess Wurf attended the most recent workshop in Mount Gambier, SA, on 6 July.
