A national award open to architects and specifiers for excellence in design using plywood and laminated veneer lumber (LVL) has been announced by the Engineered Wood Products Association of Australasia (EWPAA).
The award, which carries the inaugural Geoffrey Sanderson Trophy, is a new category in the Australian Timber Design Awards to be judged in Melbourne on 29 November.
EWPAA general manager Simon Dorries said the award and trophy recognised the service given to industry by the late Geoffrey Sanderson, who was president of the Plywood Association of Australasia (PAA) 1988-89 and 1998-2003.
Dorries said the new category – Best Use of Plywood and LVL – would help raise the awareness of innovations in the design, use and application of certified engineered wood products among architects, specifiers and builders.
Timber Development Association (TDA) communications manager Peter Rosenmai said early entries in the design awards suggested a broad awareness in the design community of the benefits of engineered wood products.
The awards are a national competition promoting outstanding timber design in the built environment professions. Now entering their eighth year, the awards are open to builders, designers, architects, engineers and landscapers, or anyone involved in the design or building of structures that feature timber.
