A former government senior adviser has been appointed new executive director of the Victorian Association of Forest Industries.
Philip Dalidakis comes to the VAFI with a strong background in both the commercial and government sectors, most recently working as a senior adviser in the Victorian Government.
VAFI president Greg McCormack said Dalidakis’s experience in both the commercial and government sectors would enable him to understand the industry. He would be an effective advocate with the State Government.
“Future government support is critical to the long-term survival of Victoria’s forest industry, particularly in terms of resource security,” McCormack said.
Dalidakis said he was looking forward to representing the forest industry and the challenges facing it.
“Importantly, the forest industry is well placed to make a significant contribution in helping to combat the increasing effects of climate change,” he said.
Greg McCormack paid tribute to the outgoing CEO, Tricia Caswell. “Ms Caswell has been a passionate and vocal advocate on behalf of the forest industry and I want to thank her for her contribution,” he said.

"Russell brings more than 30 years’ experience in the forest industry, including senior management positions in Forestry Corporation, Carter Holt Harvey and Kaingaroa Timberlands,” Taylor said. “We are pleased to have him in this important position, forming a bridge between the industry and researchers to enhance science uptake and FFR has been formed by the New Zealand forest industry and Crown Research Institute, Scion, to drive increased forestry research activity. The Foundation for Research, Science and Technology has committed $3 million a year for six years, with the industry contributing $1 million annually for three years.
